Current Clinical Experience:

After 14 years as a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Mental Health, I left full-time NHS work in January 2009 to work as an independent psychiatrist. Recent and currently active projects include;

• Approved Clinician for Pennine Care, covering both a low-secure rehabilitation unit and a locked psychiatric intensive care unit
• Consultant psychiatrist at Christie Hospital, Manchester, providing psychiatric support to cancer patients
• Consultant Psychiatrist with Pennine Care Substance Misuse Services
• Consultant Psychiatrist; Manchester Assertive Outreach Team
• Approved Clinician for Care UK, covering a 28-bedded transitional unit for patients previously requiring secure psychiatric care

Medico-legal Experience

As an expert in general adult psychiatry, I have produced in excess of 400 reports, including;

• Reports for the defendant in criminal cases
• Causation, condition & prognosis reports for defendants and claimants in personal injury and clinical negligence: approximately 90% for the claimant.
• Breach of Duty reports for clinical negligence: approximately 50:50 for claimant and defendant
• Single Joint Expert in family and civil cases
• Independent reports for detained patients for First-tier Tribunals (Mental Health)

I have given oral evidence in Crown Court, Coroner’s Court and Mental Health Tribunals, and have experience of cross-examination
